"Physical fitness is the first requisite of happiness"- Joseph H. Pilates

Come experience Pilates in a relaxing, restorative, and private setting.  Newly situated in a charming renovated home from the late 1800's, around the same time that Joseph Pilates was born.  Pilates himself indicated that his method was meant to make us responsible and in control of our own bodies and our health.  He wrote, "All in all, we do not give our bodies the care that our well being deserves."  This is more true today that ever.   Whether you are a beginner or are experienced with the Pilates Method of exercise, you will discover a wonderful retreat to train your body, mind and spirit.

HomeCore Pilates is a unique, unassuming, small studio.   Individual attention and a customized experience is provided to meet the needs of each client.   Therefore, instruction is given on a private or semi-private basis only.  Pilates matwork principles and exercises are utilized and applied to the equipment training.

What is Pilates anyway?

Pilates is movement with meaning.  No other exercise program is as gentle to the body yet challenging.  Developed from the rehabilitation techniques of Joseph Pilates, it is an intelligent approach to exercise that involves mental as well as physical work.  You may have heard it described as a mind/body connection.  It emphasizes complete concentration on smooth fluid movement patterns, body awareness in space, and correct spinal and pelvic alignment.  Proper breathing helps to execute movement with maximum efficiency and power and improves blood oxygenation.   Pilates strengthens and lengthens muscles at the same time, improving flexibility, joint mobility, and posture.  Building a strong "core" is fundamental in  Pilates work.   This does not mean having "six pack abs!"  Co-activation of the deeper layer of smaller postural muscles and those that attach to the spine is necessary to support and protect the spine, and is often neglected with other exercise programs.  Pilates seeks to build balance between the abdominals and lower back musculature.  Control of the core is achieved by integrating the trunk, pelvis and shoulder girdle.

Work on the equipment provides resistance and/or assistance through a spring based system.  This allows for safe training of weak muscles in a supported manner and offers resistance to those muscles or planes of motion that are ready to accept  challenge.   In traditional training programs, the stronger muscles get stronger and the weaker ones get weaker, creating a muscular  imbalance which can result in pain, faulty posture, and injury.  Pilates conditions the whole body, no muscle group is over trained  under trained, or ignored.   The Pilates method is built around the concept of muscle control with no sloppy movements or movement being performed just for the sake of "getting through" an exercise.   Quality of movement is valued over quantity of repetitions.  Because there are over 500 different exercises, Pilates will keep you challenged and definitely not bored.   Pilates dramatically changes the way your body looks, feels and performs.   Everyday movement patterns like lifting a child, performing a task at work or swinging a golf club, become more efficient as muscle control, strength and postural awareness improve.  No matter what your age or condition, Pilates will greatly impact your life.

"You will feel better in 10 sessions, look better in 20 sessions, and have a completely new body in 30 sessions."- Joseph H. Pilates
